How many partitions can you back up per license?
You are able to back up unlimited partitions per license, as long as they are on the same machine.

How many servers can be backed up per ARCA machine?
The number of replication licenses varies from model to mode. Refer to the ARCA specifications for further details.

Will an ARCA machine back up over the internet?
It is possible to use an ARCA machine to back up clients at remote locations. This is not supported out of the box however, and is generally not recommended. A better solution to achieve this functionality is to use the ARCA vault as a replication destination, with an ARCA machine on-site.

What kind of stress does performing a backup put on my server?
The performance overhead while performing the first, full backup can be up to 80% of the CPU resources. Incremental backups after the first full backup generally use a negligible amount of resources, and only large backups (>1GB) can potentially have a real-life performance impact.

Will performing a backup interfere with the operation of my server?
Your server will run normally while backups are being performed for non-VSS backups. For VSS backups of VSS-aware applications like Microsoft Exchange or SQL Server 2005 there will be a sub-second window in which the server is stopped to take a system snapshot. For this reason, VSS backups are usually only performed at the end of each day when the server is unused/under minimal load.

How many mailbox recovery licenses do I get with each ARCA?
The number of mailbox recovery licenses you get with each ARCA varies from model to model. Refer to the ARCA specifications for further details.

Can ARCA backups be managed from each client machine instead of a central location?
ARCA details can be managed from each individual client machine. However, doing so ignores one of the great advantages of the ARCA system – centralized management and control over your data!

What is the maximum drive size an ARCA can support? An ARCA can support drives of any size, provided there is space on the ARCA for the initial backup files and subsequent backups. Generally, large partitions (>300GB) are recommended to be backed up to external storage and transferred to the ARCA device manually, to avoid putting strain on your network. Subsequent incremental backups can then be taken over the network, a completely automated process.

Can you attach external storage to the ARCA devices?
You are able to attach external hard drives and USB devices to the ARCA, as well as map network drives. You are not able to add SANs, iSCSI devices or NAS devices out of the box however.

What kind of support is available?
Secure-ISS provide first level support to our Australian customers and partners. Further, Zenith is able to provide 24/7 support via their web portal. Please refer to our ARCA Support page for more options on what is available for ARCA customers.

How long does it take to set up a virtual machine using my backed up data?
The setup time for a virtual machine can vary based on your data size and the options selected. Typically, a VM can be established in anywhere from 5-30 minutes.

Does ARCA support Linux or OSX?
There are no current plans for ARCA to support Linux or OSX.
